MOTHER’S DAY

I define mother as a person who inspires and empowers without self-sacrifice.

The founder of Mother’s day Anna Jarvis made the whole country rejoice maternal bonds. Back in the 19th century she started “Mother’s Day Work Clubs” to teach local women how to nourish their children. She organised several clubs and moments wherein mothers became an active part. On May 10, 1998, Anna Jarvis held a ceremony to honor her mother and all mothers at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church. She conceived this day to treasure all the mothers who go all out for the love of their child. Yet, one day to celebrate mothers in society is not enough. It takes ages to be grateful to them.

Presenting you the mothers of the modern world, who consider motherhood tough yet the source of their strength and sense of fulfillment. What beautiful hustle!

1. Facebook chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg

Sheryl has paid tribute to Mother’s Day and single mothers mentioning how beautiful it is to experience single parenting. She pays respect to all those single mothers who struggle in their life, just to make their kids happy. In her book, “ Lean In Women, Work, and the Will to Lead is a call to women who want to shape their careers. She proves a point on how it is hard for single mothers to prove a mark in the world.

“Being a mother is the most important and most humbling job I ‘ve ever had. As we rightly celebrate motherhood, we should give special thanks to women who are raising children on their own. And let’s vow to do more to support them”

2. Miss universe 1994, Sushmita Sen

A woman who valued motherhood more than her Miss Universe. Going beyond traditional conventions, she is a perfect example of motherhood through adoption at an early age of 23 when she was at the highest in her career. Well, motherhood is not an obstacle in climbing ladders of your career. She is an inspiration for many and we honor her for living by her terms. Every moment she has clearly proved that Motherhood requires love, not DNA.

“The good thing is that I never made sacrifices for my children. Because when you put sacrifice as an element, you tend to let the child feel the pressure of “I did this for you”.

3. The Harry Potter creator, J K Rowlings

Where do we stop? It is worth noting the determination and fighting spirits of mothers for their family.  A woman whose life has been a roller coaster ride from the classic rags-to-riches lane. Rowling lived in shelter homes as a single mother for many years. After facing a dozen rejections, her determination made her one of the widely read authors. Forbes listed her as one of the richest and powerful women in 2011. Handling her motherhood duties as well as her career, made her one of the brilliant people, the world looks up to today.

“Anything is possible if you have got enough nerve” – J K Rowling.

4. Mother of orphans, Sindhutai Sakpal

From fighting exploitation against local women to being called “Mother of Orphans”, Sindhutai Sakpal has always been on her toes to nourish children like their very own mother. From spending nights in a cemetery at age twenty to adopting more than 1200 children who are well-educated in their life. Her care and warmth have made her family grow into hundreds. She herself has been the recipient of 750 awards.

Today, I have 282 sons-in-law and 49 daughters-in-law. In these 42 years, I have raised 1200 children.” When Sindhutai is asked where she gets the courage to do all these acts, she says in a mild voice-

“From life beta. And from hunger. Hunger gave me courage.”

5. It takes guts to be, Angelina Jolie

A well-known actress with six kids has also been a successful mother, Angelina Jolie. Despite her past thrifts, she has been playing her role responsibly and nurturing her kids. She has held a special envoy position at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees since April 17, 2012. Three of her kids are children of refugees. Well, her compassion and passion are the foundation of her standing in today’s world.

“It is a lovely thing to discover that your children don’t want you perfect. They just want you to be honest. And doing your best. In fact, the more room they have to be great where you are weak, the stronger they may become. They love you. They want to help you. So in the end, it’s the team you build. And in a way, they are raising you up too. You grow together.”

6. CEO of Yahoo, Marissa Mayer

Marissa has proved to be an exceptional mother, well balancing her professional duties. She is an example of women with a lot more power to make parenthood work for them even with less maternity leave where her child was every day there with her in office. She is an inspiration to millions who look up to her for learning discipline and the way she has nourished her kids.

“I think there is too much judgment involved from other women and I think you have to have respect for everyone and the fact that they are going to do it their own way.”

Mothers and Self Sacrifice!

Do you compromise on your needs to fulfill their desire? Do you sacrifice your favorite food for their ones? Do you go to bed last and wake up first? Do you have to do this every day!

Gone are the days of self-sacrifice! The modern woman believes in loving themselves to love others. These women have only taught the world how it is to live a life full of responsibilities and duties. According to the Department of Labour in the US, 75% of mothers with below 18 kids are in full-time employment. They have very well placed their mark and showed us the true meaning of motherhood. There is no role in life that is more essential than that of motherhood. Nature weaves a million little moments together with grace, redemption, laughter, tears, and most of all love to give birth to motherhood. It does not matter if biological or not, a mother’s love is much more beautiful. Everyone wishes for superheroes in their life, but why wish for one when you already have besides you? Your mother is your hero who protects you from mishaps. Appreciate her and embrace her with all your heart. Motherhood is exhausting, inspiring, soul-sucking, and purpose-giving. It makes you question everything, while also feeling like you know it all. It is a radical design of our values, our skills, and our perspective. It means to be fearless and to be a positive role model for every milestone the children face.

“To all the Moms, Grand Moms, foster moms, stepmoms, surrogate moms, mother figures, moms to be.”
