Everyone deals with their own river of thoughts; just like a river which deals with its noise. The analogy of the river of life and mindstream is great. Constructive thoughts often bring positive outcomes. Life is as beautiful as a river; it has its own noises in its kind embedded in the mind – thoughts. To overcome those noises one has to meditate and cultivate awareness, mindfulness, and equanimity in their mind.
The founder of the Mind and Body Institute at Harvard’s Medical School’s center claims that any condition caused by stress could be alleviated through meditation. It significantly helps in improving heart health and pumps up your blood pressure. It helps you be away from illness and infections. Start with the technique of breathing smoothly which reduces stress which makes us calm and happy. Pranayama, Dragon breathing, Kalari breathing, and Vipassana are some of the breathing techniques that could be used.
Become aware of yourself and your surroundings. When you become self-aware it becomes a lot easier to work out why you behave the way you do and how you can improve this. You need to recognize your emotions and feelings as well as your abilities. Meditation can really help you become self-aware and mindful. The calm state of mind while meditating helps you focus on the present and you can develop a clearer understanding of yourself and your feelings. Living as a self-aware individual allows you to live in the present and you become thankful to what you are.
Mindfulness helps you deal with all kinds of noises, whether good or bad, in your life and eventually helps you to move from peace to power. Peace is a sign of stagnation but power keeps you moving ahead. We must be ambitious and hungry for things that are aspiring and make us feel great. Mindfulness is available to us all the time, whether through meditation or body scans. It only means waking up your inner mental, emotional and physical processes. Whenever you bring awareness, you directly experience mindfulness via your thoughts. There is growing research that once you train your brain to be mindful, you are restructuring your brain.
Similarly, Equanimity – steadiness and calmness of mind under stress- a method advocated by Buddhist traditions helps us maintain evenness of mind and thoughts. According to Buddha, the way to bring equanimity is to be mindful from time to time. You have to develop a balanced emotion towards all the people around you. Buddha says a mind filled with equanimity as “abundant, exalted, immeasurable, without hostility, and without ill-will.”
Be an optimistic attitude and ignore negation in your life. Focusing on negative thoughts would make you feel stressed and anxious. Deal with the negative and vibe with the positive.
