Today let’s talk about one of the most intangible part of human life – Heartbreaks.
We all have been there and it is safe to say we all want to avoid heartbreaks ever again. We feel heartbroken when we lose someone or something that we loved or wanted very much. Heartbreaks can cause a large amount of stress, especially if the loss is a sudden one. This stress can affect how we feel emotionally and physically and may infer in our daily routine. Jennifer Kelman, licensed clinical social worker and life coach, says that heartbreak can lead to appetite changes, lack of motivation, weight loss and a general sense of being unwell.
Nevertheless, there are so many ways that can help you get over such difficult times. Fixing a broken heart starts with an awareness of our tendency to idealise people who have rejected us. Remember Shahjahan built one of our seven wonders of the world for Mumtaz which is a masterpiece today. Every artist who has accepted their scars has been a true inspiration in today’s world be it Alexandar or Adele. During this process of letting go, self-communicate with yourself and try to know the very depth of it. Self-acceptance is all you need with a sprinkle of self love and self-image.
Dr. Antonio Pascual-Leone calls this feeling of rejection as “emotional baggage” or “unfinished business”. If a relationship doesn’t help you grow, it is better that it ends. Leaving a bad relationship means a better chance of growing and becoming. Carrying unhealthy beliefs for a long time is something you cannot afford. Work on your way of thinking – develop a positive attitude and a great smile. The secret to become mentally strong is to give up your bad mental habits. Mental health is equal to physical health – It follows that if you really want to stay fit, you have to give up junk food. Similarly if you wish to be mentally strong you need good habits like practising gratitude and loving yourself the way you are. Meditate for your well-being and let the power of nature make you feel optimistic about your future.
Therapies aiming at improving our cognitive and behaviour can help a person through such times. A therapist helps you replace your negative thoughts with realistic ones. These therapies make you aware of your own thoughts and actions. Give everything time; things don’t turn like magic. You have to be calm while you step into this life changing process. Alen Brunet, a psychologist who has studied in the field of PTSD has developed a therapy to heal memories of people who have suffered betrayal. His therapy could be applied for various other stressful situations involving grief. Talking about your hurt and embracing your feelings helps you become a strong person. We all know it is difficult to do it then, but remember you have to keep yourself happy.

Have you met the craziest yet fearless character Rani from the movie queen? The shy and meek Punjabi girl who in spite of being rejected by her own fiance is adamant to travel the world the day after. She is a girl with less self-confidence but when she embarks on a journey alone she finds herself to be the most courageous ever. She is sassy and beautiful; showered with self-love and self-gratitude. She is not a Queen in a King’s life but she lives a Queen’s life. So does Julia Robets in Eat Pray Love – a modern woman with a successful career yet confused for what she wanted in life. A divorce helps her step out of her comfort zone and she starts self-discovering people and herself. Love stories are common; however, stories encouraging you to get out of our comfort zones are rare.
